Will I get hurt?
In any physical martial art there is alway an element of risk. Training at Inner City Systema is conducted in a friendly atmosphere where overt aggression and ego are not tolerated. However, you will be learning to take and deliver strikes, kicks and holds so you need to take care and pay attention at all times.
Can women train?
Of course!
Can I see if I like it before I sign up?
You are welcome to try it out before signing up for regular classes.
How often do I need to train?
Ideally at least 2 x classes per week to make sure you are retaining the information you learn. The more you practise the faster you learn.
Do you do private classes?
Yes. Private classes are an excellent way to brush-up on your technique or kick-start your Systema training.
Do you have gradings?
No. Systema is not taught with a ranking system like most other martial arts. It is unique in that you use yourself as the gauge to improve (along wih guidance from your instructor/s).
Do we call you Sensei?
Absolutely not. My name is Dougall.
Will Systema help me to get fit?
Yes it definately will! Our unique warm up and conditioning drills will get you fit in no time. When I arrived in Canada to train full-time with Vladimir Vasiliev I was carrying a lot of muscle. When I left I had shed 14 kilos and felt a lot better for it!
